Paul Dynan (KEVIN ZEGERS) is a decent, intelligent young man of 24. He is also part of a generation of young people who have worked hard and graduated college with high hopes – only to find that in today’s economy, the certainties of the past are gone.

Over the course of one long, dark night, Paul holds the rich kids hostage awaiting the three million dollar ransom with little idea of the secret antagonisms that are bubbling poisonously to the surface between the fathers when they are forced to choose between their blood and their money.

Paul is aided by two nihilistic youths (DEVON BOSTICK, TATIANA MASLANY) whom he has drawn into his cunning web with the lure of destruction and infamy.

THE SCENE:

YOU (15-35, attractive, intelligent) are sitting in the darkness, smoking like a chimney with your curlers in your hair, waiting up for someone…

You HEAR the sound of someone fumbling with their KEYS outside. You put out your cigarette and immediately light up another one.

The door opens. ME (25, bleary-eyed, shorter than you imagined) enters, FREEZING upon seeing You.

BEAT

YOU: …Do you have any idea what time it is?

Me checks the non-watch that isn’t not on his wrist.

ME: Let’s see, about half-past—

YOU: DON’T GET SMART WITH ME YOUNG MAN! I feel like I haven’t seen you since September! And here I’ve been, waiting for you to show up again, waiting for some sign from you that you’re okay, BUT NOTHING! No Blog, no Vlog, no Video, NOTHING! And—

You sniff the air.

YOU: Are you drunk!?!

ME: What? Drunk? Me? I don’t believe this! Are you seriously asking—-Yes. Yes I am drunk.

You start crying.

YOU:…I’ve been waiting here, thinking you were hurt or dead this whole time, and when you finally show up you’re drunk!?!?! Do you even love me anymore?!

ME: Whoa, hang on a second…When did we start dropping the “L” bomb?

You ignore this and continue crylling (Cry-yelling):

YOU: WUH-WHERE DID I G-GO WRONNNGGGG???

Me staggers to the kitchen and opens the fridge:

ME: Oooh Leftovers!

Me unwraps some cold stir-fry and a half a bowl of butterscotch pudding.

ME: Look, I know I’ve been gone…a while, but I have a good excuse, I swear.

YOU: Hah! This’ll be rich…

ME: (Mouth full) I’ve been working.

YOU: Working? On what?

ME: All kinds of things. Last time we spoke I was shooting Shark Night 3D, and I’ve since shot Sisters and Brothers, and I’ve also been working on some other, more…secret things…

YOU: Secretly drunk?

ME: Yes. No. I mean, yes I was drunk, no it was not a secret.

Me pulls out his LAPTOP and goes to WWW.DUSTINMILLIGAN.COM. He reads most of a hilarious one act play, right up to the end of this very sentence.

ME: God-damn this is hilarious! But I guess I’ve just been busy and I let that prevent me from coming by, and for that I’m sorry. But look, here’s a peek at the ADR I recently did for Shark Night: 3D

YOU: What the shit is ADR?

ME: Automatic Dialogue Replacement. After you’ve shot a movie and the editors and directors go away and edit for a couple months, they bring you in to record new lines that needed to be added in, or lines you have to re-record because you kept slurring your words after four too-many “Bayou-Bellini’s” every day at lunch during shooting.

Me breaks the FOURTH WALL AND LOOKS RIGHT AT US:

ME: But I was in no way intoxicated during any work on the production of Shark Night, or any other production. Ever.

Me presses “play” on the flash video player.

YOU: That movie’s going to be scary!

ME: But, you didn’t even get to see any of the actual movie…

YOU: Seeing your stupid face on camera is scary enough!
